My name is Maria Meyer. I am 26 years old and I live in Hinsdale, Illinois.
In June of 2024 I graduated from Shepherd's College in Wisconsin. I studied Horticulture and lived in an apartment. Now I attend the COACH Program at College of DuPage. I volunteer at the library, food pantry and a local greenhouse. I enjoy learning and meeting new people.
At home, I live with my mom and dad and German Shepherd named Yona I visit my sister, Marissa, age 28 in Lincoln Park and and my brother, Joshua, age 29 in Denver, Colorado. We always have fun together!
Beside volunteering and school, I love to watch and play sports. I participate in swimming, golf, basketball, volleyball and pickleball.
Bike riding and winter downhill skiing especially the half-pipe are also favorites for me.
I also enjoy my theater classes through Actors with Special Abilities, watercolor painting with friends and book club.
In my free time, I enjoy being with parents, siblings, friends and cousins.
I have participated in Special Olympics for over 15 years. I have competed in swimming, track, basketball and volleyball.
In 2018, I competed in swimming at the Special Olympics USA games in Seattle, Washington.
In 2019, I served as the Chicago Ducky Derby Ambassador, raising money for Illinois Special Olympics.
This June, I will be attending the 2025 Summer Games at ISU for swimming.
Special Olympics has been a huge part of my life!
